Believe it or not, this story has been second tier news in Philly. What has been first tier news is the shooting of sgt. liczbinski, the manhunt, capture, and prosecution of the suspect. Sgt liczbinski died on saturday, this tape was shot on monday. Whenever they show the tape they always use the phrase “emotions were running high”. The police commissioner is cautioning people “not to rush to judgement”- and is saying there is no audio to the tape so we don’t have a complete picture of what actually happened, and the official investigation will give us that complete picture. It’s bullshit-the tape shows enough, pigs on melee

Can anyone tell us what the people in Philly are thinking and saying? Who was the man being beaten? Are there details about how this went down?

Nando,
It is actually 3 men who were beaten, all young black men. The story that is being put out is the 3 men were suspects involved in a triple shooting-they have been charged. All 3 were unarmed and there was not a gun in the car
In initial reports on the news, the police said they thought someone who was either in the veichle or who had been in the veichle opened fire on them. A 4th man theory. They aren’t talking about this so much anymore.
2 of the 3 mens mother’s have been on the news in tears, and outrage. Rev. Sharpton said that this was worse than Rodney King. Local religious leaders in the Black community are speaking out, even if in a somewhat tame way. There is some potential here that this could develop.

i look forward to hearing more, LostArtemio. Local articles? Comments defending raw police brutality (like Uncle Joe’s assumption about “you must be guilty since we already punished you”)? Actions in the community?
And what should WE say (to the world, and to people in Philly)?

Link died. Try this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJDpiQ70×2I
I hope it sparks a strong reaction like the Sean Bell case in New York: http://www.democracynow.org/2008/5/8/200_arrested_in_massive_show_of

Considering they evidently already caught the guys whom were involved in the shooting of the officer, its not exactly clear why “emotions” would be running “high” other than the usual claptrap that its a “hard job”. And the argument that they were involved in a “nearby shooting” smells of the same nonsense from the Bell case; theres a “gun in the area” so its time to open fire on everyone.

It seems that the video has totally disappeared from youtube as Fox have claimed copyright on it. If anyone has a link to a full version of it anywhere else could they please post it as I was trying to show this to as many people as possible.
