Think the following is an excellent article from COUNTERPUNCH that gives not only an historical perspective, some background not just about Honduras but including Latin and Central America, as well as, getting into the various players (where’s Robert Altman when you need him?), and the role (and political and economic interests) of the U.S.

What I perceive as a weakness in this overall excellent piece, is there is a kind of a lumping together of “leftists” and “leftist” governments in Latin America–there are differences between say, Evo Morales of Bolivia and R. Correa of Ecuador. But even in spite of those differences, I maintain that a priority of the Org. of American States, is to present a united Latin/Central America to the rest of the world.
As of now, Pres. Arias of Costa Rica has been meeting with both sides (Zelaya and Micheletti) as mediator in Honduran coup crisis.
